Altered Calendar
Back to the mystery envelope!
I have had so much fun with this next piece! I've been working on it almost non-stop and put the finishing touches on it last night.
This is an old 1992 wall calendar and since it is filled with scenic photos I first thought I'd just make envelopes from the pictures but I started to go through it looking to see if there were any images suitable for collage. There wasn't, but as I looked through the pictures I found myself drawn to the calendar pages.
They are squares after all and you know how drawn I am to squares! Anyway, the pages have a lot of writing on them which I found very interesting. One entry states that one of their calves was killed by a school bus and another was bitten by a rattlesnake! Also the waterstains on the pages and the canvas reinforcements around the hole on each page added a certain charm. I had thought of altering a calendar in the past and now was the perfect opportunity!
This is the first spread I've done and I think I'll try to do one spread each month. It was hard to capture a good photo of the whole thing but this is the best I could get it, the colour is way off but you get a good idea of what it looks like.
The colours are more true in this close up of the top half:
And a close up of the bottom half:
And a couple of close-up details:
